Walk Like MADD Brownsville 5k
Walk Like MADD 5k! Walk Like MADD is a 5k non-competitive family walk that raises funds to support MADD's mission of eliminating drunk driving, supporting victims and their families and preventing underage drinking. The funds raised through Walk Like MADD will go to MADD - South Texas which serves 47 counties in providing community education, victim support services and youth programs. Founded by a mother who lost her daughter in a crash, Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) is the nation's largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. Consider these statistics: Last year, 10,839 people died in drunk-driving crashes - one every 50 minutes. Teen alcohol use kills about 6000 people each year, more than all illegal drugs combined. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and one out of three of those is alcohol related. But why should you join Walk Like MADD? With every step you take and every dollar you raise, you'll help support MADD's lifesaving programs. It's a cause everyone can get behind. How the Walk Helps Our organization began with a mother who lost her child in a drunk driving crash. She turned grief into positive change; her work and the work of so many other mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers started a movement that has saved 300,000 lives…and counting. But even today, one in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. Our children share the road with an estimated 2 million drivers who have had three or more prior drunk driving offenses. MADD supports our community with monies raised through Walk Like MADD. We offer support programs to help victims cope with their tragedy and loss of a loved one at no charge MADD provides legal support to victims as they go through the judicial process MADD provides equipment to local police to better detect and arrest drunk drivers (e.g. preliminary breath testers, passive alcohol sensors, in-vehic
