Now We're Cookin'!

On Wednesday, March 30th, 2010, the Brownsville Junior Service League will be holding a fundraising event at the Brownsville Events Center from 6 pm to 9 pm entitled ''Now We're Cookin'!'' in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the publication of the BJSL cookbook, ''Beneath The Palms''. The evening will include a special tribute to all former BJSL members involved in the original cookbook committee who worked so diligently to bring the cookbook to life. As part of the festivities, we will have a guest keynote speaker, Molly Fowler-The Dining Diva, who will be offering us her tips and tricks for easy entertaining. Molly Fowler is a traveling culinary instructor, a TV personality and cookbook author who demonstrates entertainment with ease, flair and impact. Her credo, ''Make every day an occasion'', reflects her attitude and approach to cooking. Molly has a daily cooking show airing in Houston and is an often requested instructor so we like to refer to her as ''the Barefoot Contessa of Texas'' because of her skill, humor and food artistry. BJSL will also host a cooking contest among local restaurateurs for the distinction of best dish in Brownsville. Some of the restaurants that will be participating will be Gazpacho's, Chef Ricardo's, Cobbleheads, El Piqin, and Mariscos De La Rosa to name a few. Guests will have the opportunity at our event to taste samples of the dishes that will be presented for judging and vote on their favorite. Our judging panel will consist of food & wine expert and owner of Jones Liquor in Brownsville, Michael Jones, Celia Galindo, chef and local caterer who owns Gourmet Central and Larry Delgado, chef and owner of House.Wine Restaurant in McAllen. Delgado is the 2010 winner of RGV Top Chef as well as 2010 winner of RGV Iron Chef. Guests will continue to delight their palettes throughout the night with appetizers prepared by Gourmet Central from recipes that come from our very own cookbook and wine contributed by Jo
