NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - Disclosure of professional liability insurance for Texas lawyer
AUSTIN – The State Bar of Texas has announced a series of public hearings to invite input from the public and attorneys regarding the issue of whether Texas lawyers should be required to disclose whether they have professional liability insurance (PLI). The Supreme Court of Texas has asked the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors to recommend by Feb. 5, 2010, whether Texas lawyers should be required to disclose PLI coverage. If the board recommends such a requirement, the Court has asked the board to suggest the method by which attorneys should be required to disclose such information. The State Bar Board will vote on this issue at its Jan. 29, 2010 meeting. The State Bar will collect input on both sides of this issue via public hearings and other avenues through the remainder of 2009. The board will use the input to assist it in making a recommendation to the Supreme Court.
