Mexican Horror Cinema Posters from the Agrasanchez Film Archives

The Brownsville Heritage Complex, located in historic downtown Brownsville, invites the public to view the exhibit Mexican Horror Cinema Posters from the Agrasanchez Film Archives. The exhibit is on view from October 1, 2011 to October 31, 2011 at the Brownsville Heritage Complex and is included with the cost of general admission. Admission is free for BHA members. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the Mexican film industry turned out many horror movies. Many of these reflected the mood of the old Universal horror films of the 1940s, but the plots were often different. Some of these films were dubbed into English and released in the United States during the 1960s, and later released on television. It was during this same period that Lucha Libre (professional wrestling) captivated the country. The sport lent itself well to big-screen adaptations with its costumed heroes and villains. Monsters and supernatural storylines complemented these mass produced movies perfectly. For more information on programs and exhibits, please call 956-541-5560 or www.brownsvillehistory.org.
