As a military post, Fort Brown was no stranger to death and dying. In addition to the morgue, the Fort had its own military cemetery. The cemetery was in use until the Fort's decommission in the 1940s. Afterwards, the bodies were interred at a military cemetery in Louisiana. The Old City Cemetery will host an exhibit that explores the history of the cemetery and its fate beyond the boundaries of Texas. Featuring pictures from the BHA collections, guests will enjoy a look into a part of Fort Brown's past that is often forgotten. An opening lecture will occur at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at the Old City Cemetery Center.
