Once called the New Orleans of the Rio Grande, downtown Brownsville was a bustling metropolitan city that brought people from all over the world to its streets. During this period, the city's growth was marked by fantastic architecture that has come to define the downtown look. While time has not been kind to the buildings of the city's most historic district, there is a movement to bring back the grandeur that once made Brownsville the best looking city on the river. Carlos Nunez, a local photographer, has captured the buildings that have been saved and those still in need of some TLC. The exhibit will be on display for Historic Preservation Month and is free with paid admission to the Heritage Complex. For more information about this exhibit, please call 956-541-5560.
