Join newly elected Congressman Filemon Vela in recognizing Brownsville Chamber of Commerce Directors and Committee Chairmen who truly care about our community and prove it through civic engagement and outstanding service.
Chamber Directors are very extraordinary people elected for a three-year term who volunteer their time and talents in order to advance Brownsville's economic welfare. In support of its members, the board develops an annual strategic plan which Chamber committees, task forces, and the staff execute yearly.
Past Board Chairman D. Marty Bogart, CPA will officially pass the leadership gavel to Alex Martinez, International Bank of Commerce.
Additionally, Robert Berry, International Shipbreaking LTD, L.L.C.; Erick Lucio, Royston, Rayzor, Vickery & Williams, L.L.P. Atty.; David Musso, Outrageous Food Concepts; and Norma Torres, Brownsville & Rio Grande International Railroad will be recognized for their leadership as outgoing chamber directors.
Moreover, the following committee chairmen for fiscal year 11-12 will be recognized for outstanding service to the Chamber and its members:

The banquet is scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2013 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Holiday Inn, 3777 N. Expressway. A variety of sponsorships are available. About Congressman Filemon Vela
U.S. Representative Filemon Vela was born in Harlingen, Texas, and raised in Brownsville. He received a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Texas.
He then spent more than two decades working as a civil attorney in Brownsville before announcing in February 2012 that he was seeking a Brownsville-anchored congressional seat that was in one of four new congressional districts Texas received due to its population growth in 2010.
Vela's late father, Filemon B. Vela, served as U.S. District judge for more than two decades in the Brownsville Division of the Southern District of Texas. His mother, Blanca Vela, once served as mayor of Brownsville.
Filemon Vela has spent much of his legal career engaged in public service and working with grassroots, community groups, experience he has drawn on when running for Congress in a new district that is believed to be heavily Democratic.
Vela and his wife Rose live in Brownsville.
