SUMMARY:To Top it Off: Historic Hats and Accessories from the BHA Collection
DESCRIPTION:March is Women's History Month and to celebrate\, the BHA is bringing a bit of style and flair to the Stillman House Museum!\n\nFor hundreds of years\, women wore head coverings as part of social and religious mores. The evolution of this practice into a style statement emerged in the 1700s. Up until the middle of the 20th century\, a woman's hat was used to convey numerous messages. As women's taste in fashion began to change and with it society's expectations\, hats fell out of favor. Today\, a revival and new interest in hats and facinators are occurring in fashion\, thanks to events like the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.\n\nVintage hats\, hat boxes and accessories from the BHA vaults will be on display through out the house\, bringing a bit of retro chic to the Heritage Complex.\n\nThis exhibit is free with paid admission to the Brownsville Heritage Complex and will be on display through April 30th. For more information about this exhibit and other programs\, please call the BHA at 956-541-5560.
