SUMMARY:Do the Right Thing - Brownsville Crime Stoppers 2nd Annual Fundraiser Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, September 12\, 2012\, join Brownsville Crime Stoppers as they host keynote speaker Special Agent in Charge Javier Pena as he discusses the historical impact of the Medellin Cartel's leader\, Pablo Escobar. The case study will demonstrate how Escobar evolved from a common street criminal to the most feared and influential drug trafficker in the world and despite the danger\, multi-national law enforcement agencies joined forces to battle the Medellin Cartel and eventually persevered. SAC Pe a volunteered for an assignment in 1988 at the DEA office in Bogota\, Colombia\, and became the co-case agent in the investigation targeting Medellin Cartel leader Pablo Escobar. SAC Pena lived and worked in Colombia until 1994. During that time\, he was the main liaison between the DEA and the Anti-Narcotics Police in Medellin.\n\n \n\n The luncheon themed "Do the Right Thing" is the second annual fundraiser organized to assist the Brownsville Crime Stoppers program and its mission. For the past 30 years\, Brownsville Crime Stoppers has been a tremendous asset to the police in solving major crimes such as burglary rings\, recovering stolen property\, shutting down drug houses\, solving bank robberies\, recovering fugitives and solving murder cases with practically no leads. Since its inception\, 930 criminals and more than $10 million dollars of property and drug seizures have been taken off our Brownsville streets.\n\n \n\n Last year\, more than $20 thousand dollars were approved by the Crime Stoppers board from anonymous tips while police have seized more than $63\,000 dollars in drugs and property. Other callers have identified a child molester who fondled children at a local department store\, as well as locations used as stash houses for human smuggling and the list goes on in which people anonymously report crimes and arrests are made based on the information provided. Best of all\, the program works in complete cooperation with the Brownsville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.\n\n \n\n Don't miss this opportunity to support your community by supporting Brownsville Crime Stoppers. Reserve your single ticket ($35.00) or sponsorship by Thursday\, September 6\, 2012. Call Alfredo Picazo at 542-4341 for more information.\n\n \n\n Or click "register now" hyperlink below for online registration.
