SUMMARY:A Historic Fort Brown Weekend with James Mills
DESCRIPTION:Currently home to the UTB-TSC campus\, Fort Brown's place in Brownsville history is important. James Mills\, a professor of history at UTB-TSC offers visitors to wonderful opportunities to learn more about Fort Brown and the community's connection to the first border post.\n\nOn Saturday\, February 11 at 11 a.m.\, Mills will lead guests on a tour of Fort Brown as part of our on-going 2012 Winter Walking Tour schedule. The tour begins at the Heritage Museum and refreshments will be available after the tour. Spaces for this tour are limited and pre-registration is highly suggested. The tour is free to members and $5 for the public\n\nOn Sunday\, February 12 at 2 p.m.\, Mills will debut his new book\, "Memories of Fort Brown\," an anthology of oral histories collected from Brownsville citizens. The tales\, going back as early as World War I\, recount the special relationship the military post had with locals and its importance in protecting Brownsville. A reception and book signing will follow the talk. The talk and book signing are free to the public.
